How to view email headers in various email clients


1. For web mail clients.
-------------------------------------------------

I) Webmail

a) Log into Webmail.
b) Click on the message to read full message.
c) Select 'view headers' in the upper right corner of the pane.

II) Mail in @Mail

a) Log into Atmail-Advanced(Mozilla).
b) Double click to open the message.
c) Click on the "View Headers" icon in the top menu. Here the icon is in the form of an envelope in front of a piece of paper.

III) Horde Webmail

a) Log into Horde Webmail.
b) Open the email message.
c) Click on the 'Message source link' at the top of the message.

2. To view headers in third party email clients.

I) Apple Mail

a) Open Apple Mail.
b) Double Click to open the message.
c) Choose "View" at the top menu and select "Customize Toolbars".
d) Drag "Full Headers" or "Long Headers" option to your toolbar and save changes.
e) Click on "Full Headers" or "Long Headers" at the top of the toolbar.

II) Outlook 2010

a) Open Outlook 2010.
b) Click to open the message.
c) Click on "File" tab.
d) Select 'Properties' from the info option.
e) New window contains mail headers.

III) Outlook 2007

a) Open Outlook 2007.
b) Click to open the message.
c) Click on the 'Dialog Box Launcher icon' in the Options group under 'Message' tab.
d) In the 'Message Options' dialog box, mail headers appear in the 'Internet headers box'.

IV) Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003

a) Open Outlook(2000/20002/2003).
b) Double Click to open the message.
c) From the messages menu, select Options from the 'view' drop down menu.
d) In the 'Message Options' dialog box, mail headers appear in the 'Internet headers box'

V) Outlook Express

a) Open Outlook Express.
b) Right click on the message and select 'Properties'.
c) Select 'Message Source' Button under 'Details' tab.

VI) Microsoft Entourage

a) Open Entourage.
b) Double Click to open the message.
c) Select 'view' from the menu.
d) Click on 'Internet Headers'.
e) For viewing the entire message, we should pull down the mouse on the line below the header.

VII) Mozilla Thunderbird

a) Open Thunderbird.
b) Double Click to open the message.
c) Select View from the menu bar.
d) Select 'Headers' and choose All.
e) The headers will be displayed in the window.

3) How to view headers in third-party webmail clients
------------------------------------------------------------------

I) Gmail

a) Log into Gmail.
b) Click to open the message.
c) At the top right of the message pane, Click on the down arrow next to 'Reply'.
d) Select Show original.
e) Message headers will be displayed in a new window.

II) Yahoo

a) Log into Yahoo.
b) Click to open the message.
c) Click 'Full headers at the top of the message.
d) Full message header will be appear above the message.

III) MSN Hotmail

a) Log into MSN Hotmail.
b) Click on inbox.
c) Do not click over the mail for which you want to see the headers.
d) Right click on the message and choose "View message source" option.
e) The full email header will be displayed in the window.

IV) Windows Live Hotmail.

a) Log into Windows Live Hotmail.
b) Right click on the message for which you want to see the headers.
c) Select 'View source' from the menu.
